So using that as my inspiration, I decided to tackle this project just days before Christmas.
Supplies:
Red felt 72" x 36" from Michael's Craft Store (I want to say this was somewhere around $5-7)
8 Sheets of white felt ($0.23 a piece from Walmart, $0.30 a piece from Michael's)
White thread
Needle
Fabric scissors
After acquiring all of the materials, I located this pattern from JoAnn Fabrics: click here for PDF
Ignoring all other instructions, I printed out page 2 with the 7.5 inch petal flower and cut out one full-length petal from the pattern.
I then traced this single petal pattern onto paper several more times, and cut out a few more stencils.
Petal Instructions:
1. Pin petal stencils to white felt and proceed to cut out roughly 108 petals from the 8 sheets of felt (You may need more felt depending on the alignment of the petals fitting on the sheets)
2. Fold each petal lengthwise, and stitch three small stitches no longer than an inch total in the middle of the petal
3. Then, stack three petals, like in the original pattern picture above, and stitch twice through from the bottom
Skirt Instructions:
1. Laying the red felt on a flat surface, measure a diameter of 36" (this should be the entire width of the fabric), and fold in half
2. Mark a center point on the fold, and measure several points extending outward in a radius of 18"
3. Pin, then cut along dotted line to create the base of the skirt
4. Cut another circle from the middle point extending a radius of 4"
5. Unfold, and cut another slit from the outer edge to the inner circle
6. Attach petals to skirt by stitching twice through from the top of the petal to the bottom side of the skirt
7. Space petals as you please, I left a bit more room than the Pinterest example picture, allowing the petals to overlap only slightly and this required a total of 36 flowers
